Description

DMC Perle Cotton #5 is a highly mercerized, non-divisible, lustrous 100% cotton thread on a twisted skein. The twist of the thread is how it received its “Perle” description and DMC’s Perle Cotton is best known as the most beautiful thread in the world.

During the manufacturing process, the thread is combed, singed by flame and then double mercerized. It is this double mercerizing which gives it its beautiful pearlised sheen. The thread is soft, silky, does not fluff or kink, and 100% colourfast.

Perle Cotton is a supple thread that provides wonderful volume and dimension to your embroidery. DMC Perle Cotton size 5 (Art. 115/5) is available in 27 yard skeins in 292 solid and 20 variegated colors.

Made in France.

HOW TO USE

There are two ways to work with your DMC Perle Cotton thread depending on the length of thread you prefer or need. For approximately 19” lengths of thread: Push the two labels toward the center.  Find the end with the two loops and cut through the bottom of each loop.  Move the labels back into place. Pick and pull out a single piece of thread from the top loop.

For approximately 38" lengths of thread: Remove both labels and untwist skein to form an oval. Cut through all the threads at one end of the oval. Pick and remove one thread for use as needed. To keep the threads tidy for future use, put the colour number label back onto the threads and slide it to the center.  Fold the threads in half and set aside.

CARE & WASHING

DMC Perle Cotton is 100% colourfast and can be washed on a frequent basis, without causing the colour to fade. The thread can be washed at high temperatures 95° C.

Particular attention should be paid to the fabric on which the thread was embroidered. Wash your embroidery with one teaspoon of mild soap. After washing, gently wring it out and rinse it as many times as necessary to get the soap out of it (until the water is clear).

Use almost cold water to rinse the piece. Wrap the embroidery in a towel to remove excess water, then dry flat. Place the embroidery on a clean towel, preferably while still damp, and iron on the reverse side, at the temperature setting recommended for the fabric.
