If you need help with that project you can book in for a lesson with our sewing guru Olivia, or if you're a knitter or crocheter with questions feel free to come in and talk to our knitting specialist Fran.

We are an authorised Singer Sewing Machines and Brother Sewing & Craft Machines dealer, and we can supply parts and arrange servicing for these machines, as well as many other makes and models. Pop in to see us in Petone for friendly personal service and expert advice.

So please, have a browse and see what you can find. If there's something that you've been searching for and we don't have it in stock please let us know - we will do our best to help.

Happy Sewing!

History of The sewing Depot (Formerly Mercury Sewing Machine Co)

The Mercury Sewing Machine Company was first formed in Auckland in 1983 by Bruce Morgan and was originally known as Bruce Morgan Sewing Machines. A highly experienced sewing machine mechanic and salesperson, Bruce spent approximately 50 years in the industry. He visited manufacturers in China and Taiwan and selected the machines he felt best suited the New Zealand market.

During the 1980's Bruce began direct importing industrial sewing machines into New Zealand. In 2002 he introduced a domestic range of sewing machines to the company. It was also about this time that he started selling machines through TradeMe, and the company has now sold well over 2500 machines to TradeMe customers.

Grant Henderson took over when Bruce retired in 2010, and in 2012 Grant opened The Sewing Depot on Buick Street in Petone. The Sewing Depot became an authorised stockist of Singer Sewing Machines and Brother Sewing Machines and is still a popular seller on TradeMe.

Under Grant's stewardship the store's range expanded to include all manner of haberdashery, threads, embroidery, quilting, sewing and pattern-making supplies. He launched an online store so you can shop anywhere in NZ from the comfort of your own home, with deliveries sent directly to your door.

Now that Grant is enjoying a new lifestyle in Queenstown, Ana has taken over business operations.
